Position: Education Manager

The Traverse City National Writers Series is looking for an education manager with teaching and administrative experience as well as grant writing skills.

The education manager, in collaboration with the executive director, plans, coordinates, and manages our Raising Writers youth literacy program. The education manager also has the opportunity to teach.

This program works in synergy with year-round NWS events where nationally renowned authors take the City Opera House stage to talk about their work and writing life with a guest host.

Our Raising Writers program offers a wide range of youth literacy opportunities that are completely free to participants:
– Creative writing classes held in after-school, in-school, and virtual program settings in the rural, six-county region
– Poetry workshops at five at-risk elementary schools
– College essay writing workshops and a college scholarship competition
– An annual Battle of the Books event that engages 350 fourth and fifth graders living in northwest Michigan. The finale includes a presentation by a nationally renowned author
– Classroom visits by NWS mainstream authors, who talk to high school students about the craft of writing, their book, and their path to literary success.
– The annual publication of two literary journals that showcase the work of elementary and high school students.
– Selected students reading their work before the event author takes the stage.

The education manager is expected to manage instructors and curriculum and collect data that demonstrates the value of the program. We are also looking for candidates who are experienced grant writers or are willing to learn.

The hourly rate ranges from $25 to $30 per hour and includes health benefits, holidays, and a week off between Christmas and New Year’s Day. Hours will range from 25 to 40 hours per week throughout the year.

For consideration, please send your resume and a cover letter to Anne Stanton at [email protected] on or before July 3.
