Format: Hybrid, first three and final class at Cordia, with remaining classes Online via Zoom (which will be sent the week of class)

Students will learn about the First Amendment, the basics of reporting, how to interview people and how to write a news story with at least three sources (a standard newspaper practice). After learning journalism basics, each student will interview a member of Cordia and write a story about them. This class will be a hybrid format, with the first three classes taking place at Cordia, the next five classes taking place remotely over Zoom, and the final class being a celebration and reading at Cordia.
About: Noelle Riley
Noelle Riley began her journalism career more than 20 years ago in Colorado, where she was a reporter and editor for various publications, including The Denver Post, the Denver Business Journal and the Craig Daily Press. As editor of the Craig Daily Press, she enjoyed teaching Newspapers in Education each year, where she helped grade school students understand the basics of newspaper writing and publishing. She’s currently the marketing director for the National Writers Series, the northern Michigan stringer for the New York Times and the editor of the Grand Traverse Scene Magazine produced by the Traverse City Record-Eagle. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
