Doug Stanton is an author, Co-founder, and Creative Director of the National Writers Series. His book Horse Soldiers spent nearly 3 months at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and was the basis for 12 Strong starring Chris Hemsworth. His book In Harm’s Way is an international bestseller that spent more than 6 months on the New York Times bestseller list, won an Audie Award in the History/Biography category, was chosen a New York Times Notable Book and a Michigan Notable Book, and appeared on more than a dozen major bestseller lists. His work has been translated into nine languages and appeared in the New York Times, Time, Newsweek, Esquire, Men’s Journal, the Washington Post, and other national publications. Stanton has appeared on the Today Show, CNN, Morning Joe, and NBC Nightly News.
He earned an MFA from the Writers’ Workshop at the University of Iowa, with coursework in both poetry and fiction, and is a recipient of the 2020–2021 Stephen E. Ambrose Oral History Award from the Rutgers Living History Society. He was named a 2018 Michiganian of the Year by the Detroit News.
