Have you ever traveled or wanted to go to extravagant and unusual places? Would you consider getting to those places via hot air balloon or submarine? Riding a camel?
Well this writing class will provide the opportunity to do just that!
Students will create an adventure story about themselves and a friend or relative, traveling to unusual places in the world. Getting there will be half the fun! Experiencing unusual sites will top the list, and the thrill and lessons learned will make for a journey unlike any other! Join us as we open our passports and write about an adventure any reader will love to tag along with you!
All enrolled students will have the opportunity to publish work in the 2027 issue of the National Writers Series’ literary journal.
Note:
It is highly recommended that students have experience writing, word processing, and editing skills on the computer. We will use Google documents to share between the instructor and the student writer. Students will benefit while writing by looking on Google maps to discover unusual places, possibly doing a bit of research to add interest to the story. Completed stories, student bios, and student headshots will be due the last day of class.
Kelly Almer is a passionate life-long learner and teacher of 33+ years, all in public education. In her teaching career, she taught students in grades K-7, Gifted and Talented, and was an Instructional Coach.
Kelly lives to teach and can say her crowning achievement has been the joy of connecting with over 1,200 students during her career. She still substitute teaches every week in the district she retired from. She loves connecting with and helping students to uncover, discover, and develop their creative abilities to write. It isn’t unusual to find her seated on the floor of any learning space, in a huddle with six or more students, brainstorming and passionately supporting them while they craft their writing. Her experiences in the classroom and her “magic” to connect with every student she has taught, is a gift she treasures.
