We are thrilled to announce the 2023 National Writers Series Summer Gala! If you already decided on going and are here to submit payment, just skip right down to the bottom of the page where you’ll find a donation form.
If you’re here for details of the gala, you’re in the right place. The Summer Gala is our most important fundraiser of the year, raising money for all we do—year-round events, creative writing classes, and Battle of the Books.

At this year’s gala, you’ll meet novelist Ann Patchett, watch an improv group Tilt Think (it’s comedy and all about the books, the books, the books), eat delicious food from Bayside Gatherings, and listen to a wonderful duet, featuring the supremely talented vocalist Sandy Metiva. Each person will get a copy of Ann’s new book, Tom Lake, a novel set in a Traverse City orchard, and—if you’re a couple—a copy of These Precious Days!

Please find our invitation, map and donation form below.

The event will be hosted at the bayside home of Ross and Brenda Biederman. They are teaming up with Susie and Bill Janis as gala hosts to underwrite this wonderful event with additional support from Rota Bump, the Lobdells, and the Baumgartners. We are deeply grateful to them and to all who can join us. THANK YOU!

Kindest regards,
The National Writers Series staff and board

Your donation of $300 per person entitles you to one ticket to the Summer Gala, the Ann Patchett author event, and one book from either author, available at the Gala.
