The tale of opera singer Ryan Speedo Green (just featured on Terry Gross) is not to be missed …

Terry Gross recently interviewed Ryan Speedo Green about his life—how, as a violent and abused youth, he spent time in a juvenile detention center before discovering he had a beautiful voice. Thanks to the several teachers who believed in him (and encouraged him to believe in himself), he ascended in the nearly all-white opera world. He will perform in LaBoheme this fall! His story was captured in the book, Sing for Your Life, written by Dan Bergner. The National Writers Series is so proud to welcome Dan on stage on December 5 at the City Opera House. His book is our Community Reads pick! If you’re a book club member or classroom teacher, please email Cindy Weaver at nws.cweaver@gmail.com for a galley copy. We want the whole community reading this incredible book! For tickets, please call 231-941-8082, go to cityoperahouse.org or stop at the Box Office.
