Inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996, National Poetry Month, held every April, is the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers, and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture. Landmark Books is celebrating with several great events kicking off with an April 4th reading by local poets Anne-Marie Oomen, Fleda Brown, Cathering Turnbull and Teresa Scollon.

April 4 at 5 pm
A Reading To Celebrate National Poetry Month
This reading will feature award winning writers Anne-Marie Oomen, Fleda Brown, Catherine Turnbull and Teresa Scollon and begins at 5 pm.

A Special Reading By The Shaw Poets
This event will feature six local poets from The Shaw Poetry Group. Readers will include Chris Bazzett, Paul Stebleton, Marcy Branski, Michael Hughes, Candace Lee and Carrie Cantalupo Sharp.

April 24 at 5 pm
Broadside Release Party and Final Friday Poetry Open Mic
Come to Landmark Books to get a copy of the latest broadside from Squirrel Cane Press by nationally known poet Keith Taylor. The event will kickoff at 5 pm, for details call 231-922-7225.

There will also be a Poetry Open Mic beginning at 6 pm, the theme for the reading will be ‘The Earth.’ The public is invited to read poems on this theme, they can be originals or a poem on the subject by a favorite writer. We encourage young writers to give it a try.

April 25 at 5 pm
Reading and Book Signing With Poet Terry Wooten
Landmark Books is proud to have poetry legend Terry Wooten in the store for a special reading and book signing. Terry’s new book collects a decade of poetry and is called The Stone Circle Poems. The event will begin at 5 pm and will close out our month long celebration of National Poetry Month. Books will be available for sale at the event.
