Traverse City, MI – The National Writers Series announces the 2016 Student Scholarship competition.
Submissions for the three categories of nonfiction, poetry and fiction will be accepted from Jan. 15, 2016, through March 1, 2016. A total of $3000 will be awarded in 2016 for each category.
“It’s a good idea for students to start writing now, or at least think about what they’d like to write about; we begin accepting contest submissions in mid-January,” said scholarship coordinator Kimberli Bindschatel. “This is a prestigious scholarship that can open a lot of college doors, and any eleventh and twelfth grader in the five-county area can submit an entry.”
The goal of the National Writers Series Contest is to support young writers by awarding superlative writing with three annual scholarships. The Writers Series also helps support the Front Street Writers, a free, for-credit creative workshop run in collaboration with Traverse Area Public Schools. Bestselling authors who appear on stage at the City Opera House often visit area classrooms to talk about their books or the art of writing or both.
Contest submission guidelines can be found at http://www.gtrcf.org/scholarships/traverse-city-national-writers-series-scholarship-application.html Co-Founder Doug Stanton and a nationally renowned author (to be announced) will award the scholarships on the City Opera House stage at a National Writers Series event in May.
The National Writers Series is a nonprofit organization dedicated to holding great conversations with today’s best authors and building the creative writing skills of youth.
